    MSX140 Oily spark plugs

Plugs were new this season and all 3 are already very oily and black (probably 10 hours use)

Sorry I don't really have any other symptoms. Ski runs well. Don't know about torque or compression, but the ski always picks up quickly and can still make "55" on the clock.

    How should I investigate further?

What engine RPM are you seeing on the water at wide open throttle?

Inspect the oil pump cable. Make sure the pump arm is pointing towards left side of hull.

Check that the hash marks are aligned on the oil pump hub. Use a mirror and light to view the marks.

    What spark plugs are installed?

thanks. Will check revs tomorrow. Correct model plugs installed.

I've been examining the oil pump but not sure what I'm looking for. Please could you explain a bit more what I need to do, in the context of these photos?

Looks like a build up of oily crud in there. I would suggest cleaning the oil pump area and the hull interior, in part to make it easier to see what you are working on and easier to see other problems that may be hidden by the grime.

This post by CrazyA should help explain how the oil pump adjustment works on the Polaris domestic (red and MSX 140) engines.

You must view the oil pump from straight on, which in practice means using a small mirror and light.
