The fuel lines from fuel tank to the fuel pump (either built-in to the carb or separate) are under suction when the engine is running... as the fuel pump sucks gas and delivers it to the carbs. It's not pressurized like a car or the fuel injected engines where the fuel lines are under pressure.

That said... with engine NOT running, turn off your fuel selector. Grab a rag to catch any spill and just unscrew the fuel/water separator jar attachment ring. Lower the jar... dump it... clean it... fill it with clean gas... reposition it and tighten down the attachment ring again. And you're done.

While your there... double check your fuel line connections (clamps) are all tight also.

    Cheers!

While you have it removed, inspect the big o-ring that seals the cap to the water separator. That o-ring needs to be in good shape, not deformed, age hardened or surface cracked.

There is also a smaller o-ring ticked into the top of the metal filter canister, if your separator has a filter.

Both can be replaced with new generic o-rings. Sizes have been posted elsewhere.
