I've setup these 260 in many combinations. Couple things:

    • You will need to change flywheel bolts. Avoid this and you will learn the hard way.
    • As for which vtech tune 8800/9000rpm...that will depend on which prop you use. The Vtech "tune" doesn't dictate what RPM you will mechanically operate at.
    • If you want to spin to 9000rpm, you will need a 15/19R and take some kick out of it. I may even suggest a 14/19R with an L13 cone.
    • In the direction you are heading, I can not recommend anything without a data logger. There is no cookie-cutter tune for your combo. You can get close, but...

The base tune I've run with that setup is 8650, but then tweaked it all around so its no longer 8650. My own ski right now has a 9000rpm summer tune and change to 9150 winter tune.

    Where do you ride?

my question in all this would be shouldn't he be faster than 72-73 with the filter, tune, and intercooler as it stands currently?

onefastmach looks like a winter project for you
the best way to do flywheel upgrade is to pull the motor
while its out do the springs and retainers and tap the exhaust for the o2 sensor
now it could be done in a weekend if your motivated enough
