FX SHO engine sound
New to Yamaha especially the SC variety. Bought a fx sho 2009 and it runs great but I'm concerned a bit because when the engine is idling it makes random squeek sounds. Hard to describe but it sounds like somethings is loose or binding. It may be just how the engine sounds and I'm not used to it. Does anyone have sound files of their engines idling I could compare?

My 2009 FX SHO doesn't make any weird squeaking noises or sound like anything is loose. You will hear a little whine from the supercharger if yo listen closely.

Only sound it should make is when you shut down the engine you should be able to hear the SC wind down (almost sounds like marbles for a few seconds).

Both my 2013 FZS and my 2014 FX SHO have made the noise you're referring to. It sounds like a squeaky chatter doesn't it?
Never had any problems with either ski...its been described to me as normal before.

sounds like clutch chatter, does it do it under load?

Yes does it in the water or on the trailer. Noise goes away if you give it throttle. Only does it at idle.

I'd say it's clutch chatter at idle then from wear, the teeth mesh hard when it's under load and the noise goes away.
have you checked to see if it can turn in both directions? if so it's knackered, otherwise i'd leave it be.
I'm no expert though, if in doubt (and it IS an expensive engine) get a decent mechanic to diagnose it properly
