Your cousin might have been tinkering with his ski on the quiet. We've all met them.

Of course if he is running with a lot less fuel and only weighs 120 pounds and you have a full tank and 250 he will be faster also.

He's deff not doing any mods without me knowing. He's not mechanically inclined at all and I've been the one doing all the mods to his ski the whole time. I've been told that it will get faster as I put more hours on it? As far a rpm I'm guessing it's turning about 7600?? It's very hard to tell from the digital tach. I was thinking of doing a 12/19 prop next with my existing mods. Do I need to tune it? I know that I would not be getting the most out of it. But will I gain anything from doing the impeller without the tune? Also doing jims ride plate mod in about a week.

My 2015 stock VXS would run 62-63mph on GPS until yesterday. I had the 50 hr service done and it woke finally woke up...maybe the new spark plugs? yesterday GPS at 65.1mph going 7400ish rpm.

I just bought a 2016 VX Cruiser HO. It is essentially the same as the VXR/VXS except for the trim. I was wondering the same thing. I bought it new and broke it in properly. It has 4 hours on it. All I could get with a 1/3 tank and just me (150 lbs) was 61.7 mph in 71 deg weather. Under normal conditions 85 degrees with a little chop all I could get was 60.2 mph. All on GPS. My rpms are only getting to 7,000 to 7250. I thought these were a little faster. I read an article where it showed 65 mph on radar at 7500 in 75 deg weather. Is my speed normal or does it get faster with more break in?

As a side note, it seems to run fine except on one hot restart it took about 4 cranks to get it started with cranking of 3 seconds each. What could have happened there?

I am very disappointed in my 2016 VXR as well. 61 mph (GPS) is all she'll do. And what is even more puzzling is how slow it feels taking off compared to my Honda F12X Aquatrax (which on paper had 20 less HP.) Otherwise I like it. Just wish the power was there.

My 2014 VXR ran 69mph on gps with the "older" hull...I'm surprised the new ones are so much slower...

There is a big speed difference between the old model 2011-2014 compared to the current model 2015-2016. I love the new model but cant get over the difference in speed.

Maybe Yamaha did it on purpose to push more people to the SC skis?

When a regular person goes into a dealer and hears ski A runs 68 and ski B runs 69 but ski A uses less gas, runs regular, less potential maintenance and is cheaper....

Yup that's exactly how the '14 VXR became the first ski I bought. All that cheap and less maintenance, etc and then you learn the only reason the SC ski's go only 69mph is that they're severely limited and the NA ones are basically at their max at 68-69.
