    98 XL760 Top End

I just purchased a 98 XL760 from a friend who has owned this ski since 2005. He started have issuse with it a couple years after he bought it. I has basically sat in a garage since 2007. He was told by a defunct shop years ago that it had a bad crank. I put a battery in it and checked the compression and it had approx 135 psi in the mag cylinder and 30 psi in the PTO cylinder. So my plan is to do a top end job on this ski. Pulling the top end apart seems a little more difficut than doing my Sea Doo. My questions is how in the heck do I get to the bolts that hold the exhaust to the cylinders. I have got 2 out of the 8 out (mag side). the four in the middle apperar to be a challenge. Tips and advice welcome. Thanks

It's much easier to remove the exhaust with the engine out. And, you'll want to split the cases and check the crank. Anything sitting that long should have new crank seals installed anyway.

+ to butter bean. I would always crack the crank case and do the seals on an engine that has been sitting that long. Nothing worse then a new top end and a leaky crank seal that introduce more are then desired and engine goes lean and you wreck a couple of new pistons

Anyone in the southern Michigan or NW Ohio area want to lend a hand?
