    Seized supercharger

My friend and I were out doing a speed run on our RXTs, when his just dropped out. The normal ~6300rpm max. His supercharger blew the ceramic clutches at the beginning of the season and has about 10 hours on the rebuild. But this time rather than the supercharger spinning freely by hand, it is completely seized up. Doesn't even budge with the engine running. Any ideas? 2006 215, just curious as to what could have went wrong before he takes it to the dealer.

its just like anything you rebuild
but they spin at 40,000+ rpm
its not hard to make a mistake

How can you tell the SC is not spinning while the engine is running? Have you removed it to investigate?

the bearings probably failed, which can lock up the motor.

FYI 6300 RPMs are far from normal. When the charger stops making boost, 5500-6000 will be the max rpms the engine will run. 8100 is normal.

We found that the charger is not spinning while the motor is running by taking a video of it with the intake hose off. was all I could think of in the middle of the lake lol

He has not removed it, he is hoping that the dealer who rebuilt it would possibly warrantee the rebuild they just did. I don't think they will, but he doesn't want to tear into it yet.

hopefully they stand behind their work, Sounds like it s gonna be expensive.

Most likely going to need a new charger, & possibly a flywheel at minimum so far.

This is also the dealer he bought it from. Which they sold it to him with a blown supercharger, and he didn't realize it until I had mine out there with him. They stud by that and rebuilt the charger at no cost(no idea if they did anything else or flush the motor) so hopefully they stand by this too. And hopefully they will do correct work so he won't be back again in the spring.

Bearing failure in the supercharger. Unfortunately the supercharger will be scrap if this has happened as the sc impeller will grind into the housing.

So my buddy just got the ski back. Bearing failure in the supercharger, only had 20 hours on the rebuild. Seadoo covered parts though.

He took it for a test drive, it wouldn't go any faster than 55mph but was running at 8100 rpm. Prior to the supercharger failure, he was keeping up with me at 65mph. So what would be the issue now? I would think it would be the wear ring, but everything was perfectly fine before the supercharger went..
