Best Places to Ride Around Tampa, FL?

Hey guys, I'll be moving from Charlotte, NC to Tampa, FL very soon and am bringing two skis down. I've ridden skis my entire life but on fresh water lakes only, never on the ocean. I know there's tons of places to ride in FL, but:

1) I'll be north of Tampa in the Wesley Chapel/Lutz area. What are the nearest fresh water lakes in that area? Lake Tarpon? Any tips or suggestions?
2) What are the best places for a newbie ocean rider to start at? Somewhere in Tampa bay? Clearwater beach area?

Thanks in advance for the help, I'm really looking forward to riding in FL (and doing it year round!).
