05 Seadoo, Gap between seat and console?

I was tidying up my new (used) waverunner today and noticed there seems to be about an inch gap between the seat and the console. I cant think of any reason this shold be there as it opens to the engine compartment. Am I missing a piece or?
The seal will not lock into place pushed all the way forward it only locks when back a little leaving the gap.

that is normal, you are not missing a seal or anything

That gap looks absolutely normal to me. as long as the seat locks in place you should be ok.

Ok, thanks guys, I just didn't want water to splash up from a wave and go into the engine compartment and cause issues, it can get a little choppy where I am at.

that gap is for the engine air intake
no air and your motor will not run
the rest of the seat has a gasket to keep out water

Sounds good then, I just figured if it got turned over or a wave splashed in there it wouldn't be good.
