Since you now have it off, tilt it with intake port up and fill the ports to top with water. Then flip over and do same for exhaust side. Watch for water leaks..

BTW: Did you do a compression test before taking apart?

120? Ha...mine hasn't been that high in I don't know how long. Still pull mid-82's in 90+ summer heat. Try lapping in the valves in and test again.

Use gas to test for leaks in the valve seats. Fill the runners and go from there once lapped.

I`ve always used rubbing alcohol. That`ll leak out a frog`s asss if he ain`t pinchin`.

Lapping is a band-aid. Pull the valves and inspect the width and condition of the seats. If the seats are too wide, they will build up carbon and you will get a leaker. Lapping will not fix this, it will only remove the carbon, and the carbon will come right back and it will leak.

I don't believe in lapping even as a last step in a valve job, because most of the lapping compounds you find are way too coarse (even the ones that say "Fine"). The coarse compounds create rings and roughness to the seat, which only makes carbon build up and heat transfer worse.

I do use lapping compound (600 grit) following a valve job, but this is more of a check on the face contact, kind of like machinist dye.
