Maxima PWC 10w-40
Anyone seen a UOA on this oil?
http://www.maximausa.com/product/pwc-marine/
Searched bobistheoilguy.com and didn't see anything. Maxima has a good rep. I've used their fork oil products for years in MTB and MC applications. I wonder why they went with dino (other than cost) for PWC engines. Like that it comes in liters instead of quarts, as my ski takes 3.5-3.6L depending on whether the filter is changed. I'm picking up a 12L case on Amazon for $80. shipped, which comes to $6.66 per liter. That's less than Yamalube 4W. Looks like Maxima started offering this product in 2013. Made in USA.

Rule of thumb;
If NOACK Volatility (evaporation percentage) isn't listed as a specification, move along to something else if you want optimal results. NOACK is an easy way to tell how cheap the base oil is. Blenders know this, and omit the specification.
Ranges of NOACK % for different base oil types.
True Synthetic (PAO/Ester - group IV/V) - 5% to 8% NOACK
Hydrocracked (highly refined petroleum - group III) - 10% to 12%
Conventional (standard cheap base lubricants - group II) - 13% to 15%
If a blender calls something "Synthetic", yet has a NOACK greater than 8%, I just laugh....and move on.Last edited by UnleashedBeast; 08-13-2015 at 03:31 PM.

Contacted Maxima about NOACK volatility and got the following response:
"Our PWC, Premium, SYN Blend, Pro Plus and Extra lines all meet or exceed the FC-W specification. We just haven't launched the specific labeled products into this segment of the market yet but it is something that will be available in the future.
NOAK%
PWC / Premium 10W-40 14.8
SYN Blend 10W-40 13.7
Pro Plus 10W-40 8.2
Extra 10W-40 7.4
Let me know if you have any more questions and thank you for choosing Maxima! "
So, if your info is correct, it's group II. I guess the question is, how does the ad pack perform in my NA VXR with 50 hr OCIs. I would have to run my own UOA, then compare that to the more expensive options to see if I would see any real performance benefit. Is MSRP listed on the Amsoil site the best pricing available? At 3.5 liters per change, it's not a huge cost difference. What do you run, Beast?

Yes, it's group II cheap conventional. No thank you, pass. The formulation is sufficient to protect your PWC engine, but hardly optimal. There are far better formulations out there, none better than Amsoil 10W-40 marine.
MSRP on Amsoil's site isn't the best available. Signing up as a preferred customer will net you 25% savings. That's how I buy it.
I only run Amsoil products in everything I own.
