    96 XP Fuel Float

Where on this float should the magnet be : top, center or bottom? I found it stuck to the fuel board on the bottom. The new style float replacement has 2 magnets but they say to remove the top one when using it on the 96 baffle? Lastly what kind of glue should I use that resists fuel?

My 97 XP had a little notch that it set in. I just put it back in the grove and used a soldier iron to melt it into place so it wouldn't move. Don't think many adhesives will do well with its life in fuel. Also there is a good sticky up above to follow in case your fuse on the circuit board is blow too. Mine was. I think it's labeled f1 or 2. I just soldiered over it and haven't had any problems with the fuel gauge since.

Ended up using some glue called Seals All that says it is oil and gas resistant and placed the magnet on the bottom. Looking at the board in the baffle this would give the proper reading I think.

While the fuel baffle is out and the float is installed just rotate it back and forth and watch what the gauge does. It should respond fairly quickly from full to empty. You'll be able to tell if it's in the correct location by reading what the gauge displays.

Tested it with a meter and the magnet needs to be on the bottom, if its on the top it leaves 1 bar left. However after some thought I purchased the new plastic type and plan to remove 1 magnet from it. Dont want this old float foam falling a part.
