    2006 12f blew piston again

i had the ski stored for almost 2yrs and took it out the other day and it seemed low on power after about 2hr of use.. #4 piston again...(last rebuild was about 80hrs ago) ski was stored with tank drained and filled with fresh 89 octane before use. i have rebuilt it again and its back up and running fine with good compression and leak down test spite having slightly beat up exhaust valves (re-lapped them) from piston ring ejection. Question is how do I tell if this is about to happen again before catastrophic failure? If I had to take a guess it clogged an injector or possibly the head gasket leaked with caused the detonation. I have cleaned the injectors and had the head checked and surfaced (no warping was found) ... what else to check or watch for?

seams like around 80 hours is the limit for 05 and 06 12Fs. Normally its the aluminum between the two rings that cracks. A group of guys around here bought 6 new 2006 12Fs back in 07 or 08. All but one has had the motor rebuilt. None of them have over 100 hours on them.

Looks like it was lean for whatever reason.
What are the last 2 numbers on your ecu?
By the way - I have gotten well over a hundred hours out of a 12F.

Can anyone explain why it only happens to one piston, wouldn't the timing advance effect all four

What ecu do you have and what octane fuel do you run. I really don't like rebuilding this thing every other year

So what are acceptable ecu versions?

I can flash the ecu to a different tune if you are interested. I keep a library of them for this very reason. On a side note, I picked up an 07 which died the same way, burnt 2 pistons which lost their skirts as well. Check the bottom of them before just swapping them out.
