New to PWC. Looking to do mods.

    Hey Hulksters,

I am heavily into modding my Yamaha snowmachines and recently took the plunge and bought a new to me 2013 VXR Waverunner with 16 hours on it. So, I joined this forum to learn about doing some mods. I see the first must do mod is the Riva ribbon delete. Some say spark arrestor is required some say nothing is required. Not sure what to do. Anyway, I am looking for the best bang for your buck without spending too much buck. Buddy across the street has a Kawi Ultra 300 who complains about his rev limiter. I want to show him what a NA machine can do. I have only 30min of seat time on this machine and hit 72mph on the speedo. I have very little experience with pwc's, but driving snowmachines and boats my entire life. I just want to go fast! Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

We refer to the Yamaha speedo as the "Dream-O-Meter"

CCW gave the basic mods above. Ribbon delete should be the first, but by removing that, you might be on the rev limiter which will cause you to upgrade the prop. The Intake Grate & Pump Seal kit, Ride Plate (with Jim's Cut). That is about all of the power adders on a NA ski. After that just ride...

No way you will be on the rev limiter with just ribbon delete or even with all bolt on's put together. Pretty much just buy every bolt on you can afford in bang for the buck order which is ribbon delete, R&D air filter w. crank case breather, exhaust, grate, plate...etc. My VXR is like a rocket right now, acceleration and top speed are great.

The reason I mentioned being on the limiter after the ribbon delete is that with the FZ and FX ski's, when you remove the ribbon, you ARE on the limiter. That's why I mentioned that he MAY be on the limiter and in need of a new prop. Now these skis are SC not NA.

Yup, the NA's are a difference story than the SC's. The best thing (and really only economical thing) you can do for an NA engine is to let it breath better.

One of the best, time-saving posts yet, thanks greenhulk. Threw in the ribbon delete, waiting for my candoo GPS module to start testing.
