Boat catches fire on Lake Pleasant, injures two before sinking

Peoria Fire Department says two women were injured when their boat caught fire at Lake Pleasant.

The leisure boat carrying five people was nearing the end of the no-wake zone after leaving the dock when the driver hit the throttle as usual and it instead exploded, according to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
All passengers jumped into the water and were rescued by another boater, fire officials say.

A 66-year-old woman suffered burns to her legs, feet and forehead Saturday morning, and a 26-year-old woman also suffered first- and second-degree burns to her back.

The 66-year-old was flown to the hospital while the other woman was taken by ground. No one else was injured.
MCSO says the fire is believed to have been caused by a mechanical issue, likely a hose that malfunctioned and leaked gas.

The boat was fully engulfed in flames and sank, fire officials say.
One of the boaters told MCSO that they recently had work done on the boat, but it's unclear if the incident is related.

I guess as soon as they hit the throttle out of the no wake zone is when it went boom boom. The gas drip turned into a gas spray at that point probably. Damn lucky only a couple of them got burns...and I don't think we would want that 66 year old in a bikini. lol
