    The backup ski, 97 SLTX

I had been kicking around the idea of getting a second ski, something with longer range and smoother ride than my SL hull. Had to be a 3seater ofc. I found this on craigslist. 2.5 hour trip one way and it was fun on the way back. Got to drive thru a monsoon most of the way. The ski needed a wash anyways lol.

This happened the saturday before going on vacation to harsens island for the gathering. I was leaving tuesday and i was bringing both skis. Sunday was a sleep in then go see what was what and remove old registration decals and found the pump had a damged vein, prop needed cleaned up, driveshaft and thru hull were toast. Gray fuel lines. Monday went to sec of state for title and registration. Borrowed a double trailer from my buddy at work. Removed some more decals and washed it down good. Put both skis on the double then took it up to work to drain the oil tank so i could start running my oil thru it.

Tuesday, Slept in till 10 then went to store to find registration decals, rope and cleats for mooring lines. Put new decals and registration stickers on. Swapped prop onto the spare pump i had from when the 900 got the 6 vein pump. It also got the 900's old driveshaft which had some pitting but was good enough to use for a week. It was kept for a backup. Glad I did. Buffed out the top deck with cleaner wax before the new stickers. Packed the truck, hit the gas station and I was off!

Bryan P said he had stuff to rebuild the carrier that he would bring so my plan was to finish the ski after arriving to the island. He also brought some fuel line too. This saved me alot of time and his help was the only reason the ski got splashed that week. Thanks Bryan P!

Wed. I splashed the 900 first thing, wanted to do some riding before working on the sltx. That evening around dinner time I started on the carrier rebuild, was no good as the shaft had worn thru the one of the bushings and into the carrier itself. Bryan had a NOS oem carrier that he let me buy. Installed it and put the pump in and bolted up. Greased thru hull. Checked all the clamps and bolts inside the hull.

Thursday I got up at 6am and went back to work. Pulled the carbs off, cleaned them. Changed all fuel lines. Cleaned and resealed water seperator. It was ready. I splashed it at 10am. She fired right up and as soon as I left the launch ppl were preparing to go ride. I was ready to test. Smile from ear to ear. Ran great never missed a beat.

So after this success I have some lunch. Hop back on the 900 only to find a cracked pump tunnel. Looks like i got the backup ski just in time. It saved my vacation and suprised me and probly everyone else aswell with how well it did. It does need new mats and a seat cover, handlebar pad, mirror. grips. I also need to get a double trailer in the near future. Very happy with what it is tho.

What prop are you looking for? I've got a freshly refurbed 366 from Impros if interested.

I'm gearing up for spring, found a deal on a ss pump stator with decent 544 prop attached, rebuilt the pump at work last week. Have a new used mint driveshaft ready to go aswell as some new hardware for the reverse gate. Going to replace the reeds with the stock ones i took out of the 900 as they still look new at 30ish hours. MFD is coming out and apart wednesday. I still need to go get some contact cleaner for the repair. Working out a deal on a few other items aswell.

I was tossing around the idea or doing a re ring and a hone to the center cylinder as it only tested at 115psi and the other 2 were at 130ish. Ski says it has 280 hours on it.... Someone said awhile back there was a year the 1050's had lower comp in the center on purpose. Was also said there are tons of different factory domes for the 1050. Anyone have any info on this?
