is this shoe / ride plate gap normal ?

I've got a pretty serious gap between the shoe and the ride plate… Is this what's causing my speed loss?
And yes one of the intake grate bolts snapped as soon as I put a sock in on it
    :/

It's hard to see from the pics, but it doesn't look too bad. Worse, it appear the rideplate is hanging below the shoe.

You can grind on the plate mounting bosses to raise it up. you can oblong the the plate holes to minimize the lessen the gap.

If you have a stock plate, the R&D 1300 plate is nice and can be further modded for speed.
