2015 310r
I own a
2013 VXR shit in open ocean
2014 FZR pretty good in open ocean
2015 FX Cruiser SVHO pretty good in open ocean
I am thinking of picking up a 2015 310r this weekend (local dealer is having a great sale) because of how stable they are in rougher water.
with my Yamaha's and open loop cooling system maintenance is easy.
How difficult is it to change and flush the cooling system on the 310r?
On my FZR and FX I have an expected cost of about $1000 at 200 hours for a super charger rebuild will the Kawi come with the same down the road cost (dealer was unaware)?
Are there any other issues or down the costs I should be thinking over regular maintenance?
Thanks
mike

310R also has an open cooling system. It's not self contained. Flushes much like your Yamaha skis, with the exception you have to flush the intercooler separately from the engine cooling system.
If you think the FZR is "pretty good" in the ocean, get ready for a surprise. My 310 makes an ass out of my FZS in rough water. It rides smoother and has creature comforts.
Supercharger maintenance on the 310R, just change the supercharger oil at the required interval, change the belt, and fog it after every ride. DONE! There are no clutches to fail here.
You will have to replace the exhaust filter every 50-100 hours, depending on salt/fresh water, and riding style. That's a $100.00 part.

Your Yamaha burns about 10 gallons to the Kawasaki's 17. The Kawasaki has killer torque and is a rough water king, but it feels like a BIG ski compared to your FZR. Test ride one before you buy one is all I can say for anything you are thinking of purchasing.

TRUTH, the 310 feels like a tank in the water compared to the FZ platform. It won't handle as well as your FX either. However, the comfort through the chop is unmatched. I'd say the FX comes very close though. The FX wont have the rough water hookup and low rpm torque, however.
You should read my comparison of the FZ vs. 310, it's very informative from someone who owns both.

Id have to disagree on the gas consumption of the fz vs. The 310. My wife and i have 300 + hrs of combined riding on the 2 skis. We are quite often within a gallon or 2 of each other on a consistent basis. I ride more wot than she does, given that fact, we use almost the exact same fuel over the same distances.
We also feel the 310 has come a long way over the 250 and 300 in the playfullness and handling department. The 310 feels lighter, narrower and shorter and a ton more playful. Comparing it to her 09 fzr, not the newer version with 40 more hp.Last edited by Chris288; 07-31-2015 at 06:07 PM.

yes with the 300/310 its now more like the yami uses 10 gallons and the kawi also uses 10 gallons, its the 250/260 that use more fuel

Add a 2015 Ultra 310 to your Stable, and I would say you have a barn full of all the right horses! And I agree with you, to take a VXR out into the open ocean is asking for quite a work out
Of the 4 Skis, the VXR and the 310 will require the least amount of maintenance. JB

Chris, how many miles per tank can you get with the 310 if you are not WOT constantly.....basically I'm wondering how many miles can you get on average....?? I know currents, waves, how hard you are on the gas, etc can all have an effect on the outcome but just wondering if you can get 75 miles.....thanks,
