2001 Yam. XLT 1200 PV carb removal help...

I am doing an engine swap on my XLT 1200 PV. When i was taking out old motor i had problems removing the carb plate due to the fact i could not get at the bottom bolts that hold the carb plate that mounts the 3 carbs to the block. I ended up taking the block out with the carbs still attached. it was very very tight. Now i am installing new engine and i can not put new block in with carbs attached cuz i am afraid to bang up carbs when dropping the heavy engine in. Engine is now in and i don't see how i will be able to install those bottom bolts again due to the carbs being in the way. I was thinking bout getting a set of crows feet that attach to a ratchet. Ddoes anyone have a list of items installed in order so i don't end up installing a part that i will just have to end up removing to install something else?

the carbs have two long bolts on each and in between carbs are two allen bolts . so in total are 6 long bolts and 4 allen bolts. the plate stay with the engine , that plate hold the reed cages . let me mention that all three carbs come out in one piece , the bottom carb plate comes out with them.

The bolts Mikegp is referring to run horizontal from stbd(right) to port(left), not vertical like the bolts that hold each carb to the carb plate that you referred to.

The 4 allen bolts have a plastic retainer that bites onto the allen head socket that used, which keeps them from falling into the bilge.

The allen head size is ~5mm. I had to grind the diameter of the "Holder" portion for it to clear in between the carbs, that I keep specifically for carb rack removal.

I can check the exact size if you need it.

I have already taken each carb off and did a rebuild kit on each of the #3 carbs. This is my first time doing anything like this but i enjoy fixing my own toys so i have researched the hell out of all of this stuff and things have run pretty smooth. I am very keen on doing things right the first time so things run pretty slowly and any help is greatly appreciated. I find it difficult to reattach the plate that holds the 3 carbs in place, to the block, while in the hull. The bottom bolts are very tight against the carb and was wondering what tool others use to tighten these bolts

The carbs need to be out of the ski to attach the bottom plate(6 allen head bolts)!

You also need to ensure the throttle and choke plate close and open in unison. There is an adjustment for the long throttle arm, but often times you have enough play in the carbs bolts to wiggle it in sync..
