Possible sighs of bad carbon ring or not?

Hey what's up guys I see a lot of posts about faulty carbon rings and the warning sighs such as the grey dust it gives off I've had this problem on my 13' rxt260 since last season I have noticed a grey grease all over the inside of my ski I brought it to the dealer and they Said it checked out fine nothing to worry about and they dident know what the substance was that was around 48hrs I have been riding the ski ever since running great and now have 71hrs and no matter how good I clean it the grey mystery film comes back could this be something else? Also I go a little overboard with the xps lube could that be it mixing with water when I often spray down the inside ? Please help

I cant help with the grey film stuff but my GTR215 had a dark line of carbon directly under the ring and around 70 hrs the ring was replaced under warranty.
Faulty Carbon ring was to blame as engine was checked for aligment.
Also around that time I noticed more water than normal in the hull.

Look for a direct dark line right below it. You can search and see pics of it.

Have you notice if there is any more water in your hull than normal after your riding?

if it says BRP on it, you can be sure it has a bad carbon seal.........

My best guess then would be a little excessive with the XPS lube spray.

Try cleaning the mess up best as possible and then next time take precautions when spraying the XPS so it isn't getting all over the inside of the hull. Then go out and enjoy a day on the water and see what it looks like afterwards.

Always avoid getting xps lube on the carbon ring. Wipe down excess lube, it will float on the water within your hull and will come in contact with your carbon ring causing it to take on more water.

Carbon rings fail due to the engine and pump not being aligned properly from the factory and or motor mount issues. Otherwise, they should last hundreds of hours.

If you don't check and fix the alignment you WILL repeat the process.
