    RXTis 255 drive shaft

So I got all the way out of the channel and gave it a bit. There was this squealing noise, I lost all propulsion but the engine would still rev and I got towed in
So when I got home, I could see the drive shaft spline had been pushed out of the impeller (sorry no photos) not sure how this can happen as I didn't think there was that much play in there. After I'd pulled everything apart I could see the drive shaft spline was so badly rusted there was no groves in the drive shaft or the impeller. So the questions I have are, how could it push the drive shaft out of the impeller, how can I stop this happening in the future without having to pull the pump out to inspect, if I need to replace the drive shaft and it looks like I will, how difficult is it?

Get a shop manual at www.brpmanuals.com.

This will be a very extensive job since you need to remove the top deck on a suspension ski. But, drive shaft needs to be removed and replace the following:
    drive shaft
    PTO bearing seal
    floating ring
    carbon ring
    c clip
    bellows
    new impeller and nose cone
    wear ring
    Possible pump bearing kit

check engine alignment with pump and check motor mounts, which is possibly why this occurred.

read through the shop manual steps to do all of this and determine if you are willing and able to do the job otherwise pay the man! And it will be a costly repair, but you have no choice but replace all of these items.

Thanks JT, I feared as much. I was able to clean the impeller spline but I think that's all I'll be able to save.
i read somewhere that the newer model skis now have stainless steel drive shaft so should I order a drive shaft from a RTXis 2010 or newer or does seadoo only make S.S shafts and just order one for my actual year?

No you do not want 2010 drive shaft due to being carbon steel verses stainless and were prone to failure and spline failure! Sound familiar?? Get 2012 or newer drive shaft with c clip style floating ring.

no way of would use that impeller!
