    Yamaha SUV blown piston

    Hi, I have a Yamaha SUV with about 200 hours. I rebuilt the carbs, put filters in the carbs and removed the oil system.

    Ski was revving really nice for about 45 mins...then the engine felt weird at the top (suspect some vapor lock)..Went on for a while at 5500 and then turned off for about 30 minutes

    Turned on..went for 5 and then lost power and shut down....at the beginning would not crank at all...

    Had to be towed....as soon as the boat comes out of the water it turns on.. very rough rpms.

    Turned on again...had some backfire and went to test compression...105 on the first 2 and then 0 on rear one.

    Any thoughts? just change out 1 piston? top end rebuild? or whole engine

    Not much piston wash on that #2 that I can see from this angle = lean
    Secondly you will want to split the cases to verify you don't have mess in those bearings
    I'd recommend whole engine rebuild personally and most likely you will need a new head too.

    Yep you need a head for sure and a full rebuild. Is the rear seal still in place at the back?

    havent checked that yet....leaving to just get a new engine. Now sure what crank looks like...
