HELP gp 1200 crankcase question. what are these holes?
pulled the carbs off my 1997 gp 1200, notice 2 holes in crankcase between the intake tracts. one has what looks like remains paper or cotton cloth over it. the other appears to have deteriorated rubber in it and had this little rubber piece sitting on top. What are these and what do I need to do from here to make sure things are right?

Those are not holes. If you flipped that motor upside down...you would see they have bolts on the other side and the bolts don't reach all the way through.
However...those areas on a 65U are AWESOME for collecting all sorts of fun items. Like the one you are holding. I know GP1200s pretty good and have no idea were that part is from. Either way...no reason for panic!

A big +1 on the above..
The part you have in your hand is the drain plug out of the glove box..
So to answer your question you don't have to do anything regarding the "holes".!
- (what you see there is the top of the M8 bolts that hold the crank case halves together.!)

I think the crankshaft is the main component needed to change the stroke...
