07 RXT - Replacement Hood Strut
Anyone have info on an aftermarket gas strut for the hood on an 07 RXT. Mine crapped out on me yesterday. I did a search but found only problems with the strut popping off.
Thanks,
Ryan

I used a Monroe 901457 on my 05 GTX, 07 RXT shows the same BRP part number as my 05.

You have to worry about the length of the strut too. I bought one from oreilly's that was a little bit longer than the factory strut and now my struts keeps coming apart from the ball mount.

I will be taking the strut off tonight and actually measuring the collapsed & extended lengths to confirm before I buy.
Just thinking.. I also have an 09 RXT... I may take that one off too and measure the force required to collapse.

Okay. I removed the struts from both my RXTs (07 & 09) this weekend. Here is what I found out: First off, the rubber boot over the strut sucks! On both of my skis the boot was filled with water, causing the corrosion that undoubtedly killed the strut on my 07. The strut on the 09 is not far behind. So with the new replacements, I will not reinstall the boot. I prefer to see the strut and inspect/oil after each ride.
With the struts off I was able to measure the closed length at 8-7/16” and the extended length at 12-5/16” for a stroke of 3-7/8”. Then, I measured the force required to compress the good strut on my 09 and I get 100 lbs (101 the first test and 103 the second test). 100 lbs force is a common charge option.
From all of that I will be ordering McMaster # 4175T5 (100 lbs force option), which looks to be an exact replacement. This is stainless steel construction with M6 threaded ends. Just swap over the plastic ball ends.
I will post again after I have them installed.

Rather than guessing, connect a voltmeter the next time you go riding....
