    Polaris 1200 "017" vs "286" Cylinder

Is there any major difference between the 017 1200 cylinder and the 286 cylinder off the 800? Picked one up thinking they would be the same and to my surprise the last 3 digits cast into the cylinder were 286, not 017 like I was expecting.

Found my answer - yes they are different with respect to port timing. I will measure the actual port timing difference when I have a chance.

There is about a 2mm difference in both transfer and exhaust port. Roughly 5 degrees of exhaust duration difference.

Just some ballpark figures - the 286 is 40.15mm from top of exhaust port to deck or ~180deg, the 017 is 38.5mm/~185deg which is a ~1.65mm/5deg difference. This confirms the 017 has more aggressive timing. Both are stock bore 84mm cylinders.

Other than that, port shape and size are very similar. I don't see any reason why an 800 cylinder wouldn't work with a little grinding.

I think those cylinders are for the 800 di. I think the carbed 800s use the 017s
