    RXP Impeller boot comes off

    The Impeller boot on my 04 RXP keeps becoming unscrewed. What would cause this?

    Should use red lock tite when new. May be stripped out now

    OEM , or aftermarket ?

    Red locktite works on rubber? It's an OEM boots in the threads are still good

    Manual calls for loctite 577.

    If it keep coming off) Even with Loctite check Engine Alignment .
    Some say Run without it . but water can push the shaft forward and overtime sand can build up behind the shaft and push- forward Destroying your engine thrust bearings

    If this were me i would just remove it completely..
    Not really, depending how far back the motor is mounted , as little as a teaspoon full of sand can remove any free play in the drive shaft. Lots of sand and dirt and stuff is suspended in he water, especially in the surf zones where a lot ride. Not to mention sand wearing the splines away.
    Even just be beaching it in a mild chop, sand will find its way Its into to everything.
    I have an ultra 150, cone came off and when I pulled the pump for its annual inspection, the splines and pocket in the impeller were packed hard with sand, it's was like concrete.
    That's why there are 2 O rings on the cone.

    Many of us have run with no cone at all for years, with not a single reported issue on the 4-tecs. What has been reported quite a few times is water getting forced into the double o ring cone, and that water pressure forces the shaft forward, damaging the motor. Because of that, many drilled holes in the cone to allow water out. Many people also could not keep a stock or Solas cone on, so they gave up.
