Check the ground wire going to the Stator, generally when this happens it frys the the ground wires, and possibly some of the components

I tried jumping over the starter relay and get a spark on the positive. If my ground was bad, would I still get a spark?

that depends on how much damage the harness took when the battery was in backwards.

there are consequences to trying to "work around" this problem.

Start by inspecting the innards of the electric box first..then cutting the harness cover open and follow the crispy wire to the stator
