    What type of ski?

Hey guys new to the site. Buddy from work told me to get on here and ask for opinions about jet ski's and any questions regarding them.
Don't have a jet ski yet but I am looking for one. Any type of brand that is reliable and good for riding on the river? Price range I'm looking at is around 8-10 thousand. Like to buy new if possible. Looking for more on reliablity than speed. Sit down ski too. Thanks!

For that price range new, look at the Yamaha VX or the Seadoo GTI 130SE. Both are great skis. The Seadoo will have IBR which is very nice. The Yamaha VX is probably the most reliable ski in today's current PWC lineup.

I'll second that. I believe Sea Doo is offering a 5 year(48 month after the standard 12 month) warranty on everything but the Spark line.

Wow. I had a nice, long reply and managed to make it disappear. No worries though, I'll try again.

The iBR that CCW refers to above stands for intelligent Braking and Reverse. Yamaha's comparable system is called RiDE which stands for Reverse with intuitive Deceleration Electronics. Of course, both manufacturers claim that theirs is the best.

Our member BetaRoc has begun compiling data for his PWC Database. It's new, so it may not have enough information for you yet. We learned about it in this thread where he invites to give him input on what data fields we might like for him to add. Being in your position, you could help greatly by telling which data you would find particularly helpful. Shucks, a lot of us have been in your position but just forgot most of what it was like now that we're old hands.

But it was just a couple of years ago for me and I started a thread much like this one and the guys here were extremely helpful. Here is my thread. You may find some useful information if you are patient enough to wade through the 13 pages that it grew to.

But, that wasn't the entire story. It was quite difficult to find a dealership that fit me. Here is that thread. Much shorter, so it should be easier to read.

I also want to encourage you to finish filling out your profile so that we will know at a glance where you are. There are many regional groups that get together to ride and you will find that section as you get more familiar with the site.

for that money you're looking at the GTIs, or SPARKS.

...there are other makes out there - but I only ride the 'Doos.
Been riding since 2K6 and NEVER had to tow any of my skis back - ever (knock on wood)
Sea-Doo for fun; Sea-Doo for life.

How about a 15f ? They're still just under $10000 aren't they? They must be reliable, no?

Yes. The 15F is an excellent & reliable entry level ski.
    Check it out.

And don't forget the BEST all-around rec ski, the Ultra LX. Not supercharged. Most storage, excellent range, same motor as 15F. Just not very fast (55-57 mph) Excellent for towing.

In that price point, the 15f will probably be the fastest and funnest. I have one and love it.

I must really be getting old. I see this stuff all the time, and my whopping 58 mph is plenty for me. I'm just a cruiser, though, not a racer.

Well, I must say you have a good point there.
