Thread: Premix ratio???

    Premix ratio???

Hey guys I just bought a 2002 GP1200r Saturday, I test rode it for about 15min took it back in and gave the man the $$$ it runs great. it's just a 2002 GP1200r (280hrs) the motor was gone through by the original owner once (somewhere around 150hrs) and by the most recent owner this spring he also added a Riva stage 2 kit and if the seller is to be believed Riva heads. all I know is that it will spank my other ski (Bone Stock XLT1200)

Anyway the the GP also has all the oil block off stuff installed and the seller said that hes premixing at 50:1 he's a mechanic at a local marina so I didn't think anything about it, but now that I have spent 24hrs on the internet it seems like 50:1 might be for max performance, maybe I should just run 40:1 to be safe? I'm not going for any speed records or anything.

    Thanks,
    Tom D

IMO 50-1 = 2.56 oz of oil per gal of gas, 40-1 = 3.2 oz of oil per gal of gas not much savings going 50-1 not worth it to me. Crank, rods, pistons cost much more than a few oz of oil! Tommy Jordan

I would think a GOOD quality oil would be fine at 50:1 on a stock motor. If you are being cheap with the oil you buy, then 40:1. Stock or modified motor?

    Edit: I see modified......I would do 40:1.

Its easy to mix at 40:1 as well. I have small windshield washer concentrate bottles that I use to carry oil in my bin. They hold 16oz each and mix with 5 gallons of fuel for 40:1. Easy as pie to fuel up at a marina.

How long has he been doing that and how often does he tear it down?
