    2014 FZR Top Speed (Stock)

Breaking in the new ski, have about 2.5 hours on it now. Last night I hit 69.4 mph with 2/4 fuel bars and went back out tonight and ran 69.4 again with as little fuel as possible. Seems to be fastest in bow up 1 position. Using the "Max Speed" App on iPhone 6. Was REALLY hoping to break 70 mph box stock but I guess that's not going to happen. Don't have a Garmin yet but getting one soon. What kind of top speed did you guys see before starting your mods? Just trying to get a baseline MPH before I start modding a little. I weigh about 220 lbs and am 6'1". Thanks!

Yea, I'm going to sit down tomorrow about put an order of "stuff" together, lol. Has anybody hit 70 or 71 stock with this ski? Rick claims his 15 FZR is running 71 MPH bone stock.

Edit: He is running 71MPH with SCOM but claims the SCOM doesn't actually give you a higher "peak" speed, it just allows you to hold the top speed for longer.

I went from 68-69ish to 73-74.6. Depends on a few variables.

I think the FZRs are limited by WOT time. You might see a bigger # if you hit the throttle from a 45 mph roll or so, but it wouldn't hold 70+. The USCG wouldn't allow it.

I wonder if this is why these timing chains are breaking.

I was under the impression this is a "de-tuned" machine that you should be able to go WOT on all day long. With 1.8L displacement, and supercharged, this ski shouldn't even be breaking a sweat to hit 70...

Naa. Yamaha changed suppliers. Probably looking for a shot cut to overcome the money spent on other engine improvements like forged pistons ect...

    Yes, but AFTER proper break-in.

I have done the proper break-in. 5 minutes at exactly 2K, then 1.5 hours at under 5K. After that the Yamaha manual, and several forum members, said to "assume normal operation." If there's a secret break-in procedure I'm unaware of then please educate me. I've not been going full blast all the time, just a few speed runs to see what she'll do.
