    AvGas in watercraft experience?

    All,
So the local gas station offers Aviation fuel (100 octane) as long as you put it in containers and not directly into the car. Anyone run this in a stock pwc and see any benefits? Only worry is that it's low-lead vice unleaded so not sure if it would gum up the exhaust or cause any other issues. I probably wouldn't try it in the SVHO, but maybe the older SeaDoos? Any experiences?

    Johnny

Avgas uses a different rating for octane then road fuel.

I couldn't see any benefit what so ever. Just maybe hurt your wallet. If there is lead in it you will most certainly cause harm.

Avgas is formulated dryer. The chrome plating used on aviation recips cylinders is a porous type of plating. Aviation recips are actually designed to burn a little oil.

Doesn't that have lead in it? It will shorten the life of a o2 sensor and may clog a fuel injector

If you use it you want to mix it half and half with regular pump gas. It does not have heavy molecules needed for high rpm. It contains 1.2-2g of lead per gallon. I store my ski with it in the winter since its carbed and is ethanol free. It will last 5 years without going bad.

Also keep in mind it's federally against the law to run it in any watercraft.

we ran 100LL for awhile, but it left a shit load of lead depposits, it contains much much more lead than leaded fuel did in the 60s and 70s and like BD said, its octane rating is different that automotive fuel, i think it equals out to 94 or 95

Avgas is around 100 octane and carries the name 100LL (low lead) and is dyed blue. But dont let the name fool you. It has tons of lead in it which is how it achieves its higher octane rating.. I have seen valves removed that have massive lead deposits on the backside of the exhaust valve. This would not be good for a high reving PWC IMO.
Are you sure its 100LL and not just 100 octane race fuel? 100 octane race fuel from say...Sunaco does not contain lead. It gets its octane via aromatics such as Toluene or Xylene. This is the type of fuel you would want if you had a need for it. Just because it says 100 octane does not mean they are the same.
