    HELP: Polaris sl780 is slow

Okay so i just bought my polaris 96 sl780 and i also have a sl750 and the 780 is so much slower than the 750.
Here is the problem i am having. First off it won't idle. evrytime i want to get going i need to start it and give it some throttle and it will start up and run but once i let go of the throttle and the rpm go down to idle range it dies out. Now i am also having a problem of not a lot of power when i first start out. On my 750 jetski i pull the throttle and the whole boat lifts up because it has good power. On the sl780 it does not lift up it just gradually gains speed if your going in a straight line probably up to around 35mph. the sl750 reaches about 50.
If I'm doing donuts in the water on the SL780 it does not pick up speed and all and goes slower.

There must be some issue here. The 780 should be faster than my sl750.

If anyone has a clue what this problem may be please share.

I did not check the compression yet. I did fresh fuel and oil and new spark plugs. new battery and new exhaust gaskets.

Every old blue-engine Polaris needs to have a complete carb/fuel system overhaul... if still original. Did you do any of that? Rebuild the carbs with Mikuni kits? Rebuild your fuel pump? Check your fuel selector/fuel-water separator-filter/all fuel hoses?

Why did it need exhaust gaskets? The big one for the pipe or the individual ones on each cylinder for the manifold?

Did you pull the jetpump and inspect it? What's your impeller-to-wear-ring clearance look like?

Is your rideplate good and sealed?

Lots of things to inspect on a new-to-you ski. Everything you need to know can be found here: http://polarispwcknowledge.shorturl.com/

    Cheers!

The fuel-water separator is always full... but hopefully only full of gas. Water will separate out of the fuel and rest in the bottom of the jar. Your fuel-water separator should have a red ring inside the jar that will float on water... but not gas. So if your red ring is not on the bottom... then there is water in the jar... so then carefully remove and dump it out and replace.

    Cheers!
