2001 seadoo gtx di... wont go over 40 mph...newbie here

I have just purchased a 2001 seadoo gtx di with 66 hours on it. I took it out to see how it would run inly to find out it only goes approx 40 mph according to the speedo...not sure how accurate that it... it seems the engine ran strong at approx 6750 rpm and didnt seem slugginh or bogged down. I would say the water conditions werent to bad maybe slightly choppy but not white caps or anything. I still was expecting higher speeds. Any tips or checks to look at? I plan on taking it back out and seeing if the results are the same... any insight would be great... thanks in advance.

wear ring is worn, put a bright light up the pump tunnel and if you can see any significant gap between impeller and ring, it needs replacement. be a good idea to pull the pump to insopect it and grease splines anyhow.. If the engine revs up right away from a standing start and the ski slowly picks up speed that's another indicator.

    and welcome to GH!

"mmpeter" is probably right, but 40 mph is quite slow, even for a worn wear ring. You should also check the impeller for dings and dents. You may need to get it fixed up at Impros. Good luck!

+1 with Captain Pete. 6800 RPM's is just right for a GTX DI machine. You definitely should be looking for pump related issues.
