How bad is it? 2007 GTX LTD

So long story short my ski is in bad shape. I pulled the pump to put a new impeller and wear ring on and got some surprises. When I pulled the pump off the impeller could almost slide all the way out without needing any tools. Looks like bearing is non-existent. When I removed the impeller cover, it was full of not oil or grease, but rusted metal parts. I still have to pull the impeller out and determine what parts are in tact and what aren't but I am thinking of ordering a pump re-build kit and whatever other parts I may need.

So thats the problem I know, the unknown problem is I was checking out the inside of the hull and I saw what looked like a shop rag or something wrapped around the drive shaft. I took a picture the best I could. How bad is this? I am very handy but I am no mechanic, is this something better left to a shop? Thanks for any help/advice.

Rebuilding the pump isn't a major job, but you'll need special tools to do it properly (bearing pusher, prop tool, press etc.

The bigger job that requires more help, knowledge n tools is the carbon seal. As a minimum I'd replace the whole assembly (top hat, carbon seal, accordian boot, clamps, clip etc). Then you need to see the condition of the drive shaft itself, plus the splines). Assuming that the alignment is good, then it's just a case of assembly. Goes without saying, a new wear ring n prop is more than likely needed too.

Not cheap, but it has't been very well maintained, so now you have to pay.

    Will transform the ski though.
