2007 gti se reverse bucket/lever issue
Took ole Bessie out for the first spin of the year. Wanted to burn up that old stabilized fuel.
Went over a very small wave heard click and all of a sudden the reverse lever starts coming up by itself as I got faster. By 30 mph I was in full reverse. I tried to hold it down while driving w limited success so I used a tie down to hook the bucket to the grab bar under the seat.
Upon inspection I see nothing wrong near the bucket. I see one bucket return spring, not sure if there should be two.
Many help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

There is only one spring.
What happens when you try to move it up and down via the bucket?

there is a latch system on the bucket that locks it up until he cable starts to move. A bit of square aluminum..may have failed. have a very close look at the part diagram and your bucket.

When in the up position, it should hold in place and take a fair amount of effort to move it down.
If you need a new spring, I have one I'd give you (spare from my older ski) if you would pay for shipping.

Hey captain Pete, ironically my name is Pete, here is the diagram I'm looking at. Can you take a look and identify the part you're talking about?

Is there a chance the cable could have stretched and is causing the bucket to sit just a little too low?
