    Starter or bendix

Hello all, trying to get my 1999 polaris SLTX running. Not sure if it is the starter or the bendix. If it is the bendix how do I remove. A response would be great. Thank u

    What are the trouble symptoms?

Starter motor is below the exhaust manifold on left side of engine, down low. Two bolts at rear of starter motor are removed, then the motor slides out straight rearwards. The forward end of the starter will often will be stuck in the flywheel housing. Muscle, wiggling and perhaps leverage is needed to work it free.

The Bendix is inside the flywheel housing. Flywheel must be removed before Bendix will come out. Don't lose track of the flat washer and recessed spring assembly from the forward end of the Bendix shaft.

Well first off the Spring and washer might still be in the flywheel cover( they do tend to stick in there sometimes)

and secondly...have you checked battery voltage.?

I ordered a new battery as a guy came to consider buying. I heard a click. No turn of the engine. So i figure start withgood battery. Checked wire was secure on starter. I will check flywheel cover. Thank you.

David, thank you for the link. I will give a thorough check under the engine. However, I think the previous owner may have left out.
