Seadoo Riva Thru Hull Exhaust Question

Hello Forum Members,

I was looking to install a Riva thru hull exhaust on my 14 RXP X 260 but do not want it to loud. Ive heard the exhaust on my buddies 13 rxp x 260 but he also has a riva waterbox and its too loud for my taste. My question: Does the Riva Waterbox make the exhaust louder? Will just a thru hull exhaust be a lot quieter than with the waterbox?

Why do you want to fit a rear exhaust kit?

Removing the resonator from the exhaust system will make it louder, but cause a drone under certain rpm. No performance gain.

Adding the rear exhaust will lesson the drone affect. No performance gain.

Adding a performance waterbox such as Rivas and a rear exhaust will yield the best results. Small performance gain.

IMO: The only time one should install a thru-hull exhaust is because they must. Wish I could keep my resonator but after certain mods and added RPM, I was melting the plastic resonator. The consequences of a melted through resonator are HUGE (ski sinks). If I was close to stock and below 8500rpm, I would keep it stock. I prefer a quiet exhaust and the resonator is mostly responsible for that. For me, that isn't an option anymore.

Having said that, my thru-hull and riva waterbox is only (mostly) anoying during no-wake areas. It isn't as bad as I was expecting while cruising. The Riva waterbox is slightly louder overall and definitely louder under hard acceleration.

if you want a quiet ski leave the stock waterbox
and if you want a whisper quiet ski add a second box
some of the old skis had a second waterbox before they went to plastic type
of course you will need to make your own pipe

You can also run the stock WB with the Riva Through hull setup. This will be the quietest option and gets the resonator and extra hoses out of the ski making a lot of room for access. No performance gain.

on a 14 rxp the IC is up out of the way
so if you like it quiet why do you want to mod the exhaust?
the thru hull mod is not a easy job on a rxp
if your looking for a performance mod you should do the intake manifold mod
removing the spark arrester will add a little boost

The thru hull setup on a stock water box and taking some water out of it is my favorite hands down . No drone and it sounds clean . Not raspy and annoying and when you romp on it the box clears out and it sounds mean

thanks for your fast responses guys. I do not want that drone sound. That is the exact reason why i am contemplating the thru hull exhaust. I know there is no performance benefits but i just wanted a little more noise from it. I know i dont want the riva waterbox because it would also increase sound.

Can anyone else confirm that there is no drone with just the thru hull exhaust mod on a stock ski?
