strut for front hood

Hi All
In the process of getting a stainless steel hood strut to replace my original one.My question is do i put the rubber boot back on or leave off for easy access.

If you keep it clean you probably do not need the boot. I think the boot is more meant to keep dirt off the shaft of the strut. That dirt can then get at the seal or scratch the shaft and cause damage to the strut. If you keep it clean you should be fine with a SS strut and no boot.

if your getting dirt on the strut from riding it you are obviously not riding in water!!

to the op i would say personal choice some of us dont have the issue once you are aware and actually lube it.
