    1200 engine log pipe differences, 2003-2004 Genesis pipe exhaust flow internal lip

    IIRC, the post 2002 log pipe has an extra 'lip' inside the exhaust manifold to deflect exhaust flow away from the 'downstream' cylinder ports.

    The log pipe exhaust change a bit over the years. 1999-2000 Genesis, SLTX-B log pipe part number 1260850
    Replaced with 1261125 (2001), 1261125-329 (2002), 1261259-329 (2003-2004)
    These photos show the additional lip inside the MAG and CEN exhaust openings on part number 1261259.
    The actual log pipe casting reads 1261259-04.
    The Polaris part number cross reference shows 1261259-329

    I believe this exhaust pipe came from a Genesis, but I do not know the model year. Bought the complete rebuilt engine separate from the hull, I never saw the hull.

    MAG casting clearly shows the angled lip to direct exhaust flow away from the PTO cylinder.

    Whoever installed this exhaust pipe on the rebuilt engine used a lot of sealant AND an exhaust gasket. Photos taken before I cleaned it up.

    CEN exhaust inlet also has the added deflector.

    My understanding is that these changes were intended to correct a longstanding problem whereby some 1200 engines manufactured prior to 2003 would suffer from repeated (PTO?) piston melt down yet other owners with the same engine would have no troubles. Apparently some combination of operator throttle and water conditions was allowing exhaust heat from the other cylinders to affect the PTO cylinder and the result was repeated failure of the PTO cylinder. This problem affected the Genesis engines prior to 2003, I do not know if there was similar trouble with the Virage TX or Virage TXi.

    I have been told that when rebuilding a red 1200 motor with log exhaust pipe, an excellent upgrade is to install the 2003-2004 version of the Genesis exhaust pipe (1261259).

    The PTO inlet on the newest log pipe version looks unchanged from prior versions.

    For comparison, this is the CEN inlet from my 2002 Virage TXi (1261125).
    No lip inside the opening.

    I will be using the newer Genesis log pipe on my 2002 Virage TXi with a rebuilt engine.

    Timely for me... since I'm contemplating swapping over from the red pipe on my 1200 in the Rio to the log exhaust system for the flatter powerband.
