weird carbon ring wear causing water leak. Riva Stg 3 RXP
I had a water leak on my 2004 Riva Stage 3 RXP the first ride out after buying it. Previous owner said that the carbon seal was replaced recently. I pulled it out and it had uneven wear and grooving in it, causing the leak. I also noticed the drive shaft rubber knob at the motor end was crushed and deformed. What would have caused all this?
-Improper install?
-Engine alignment off?
-Motor does vibrate alot at idle for some reason

Motor should not vibrate at all due to any mods.
I agree! The vibration is caused by a possible broken mount
This would also be the cause of the carbon ring wear.
I have the replacement carbon seal parts and mounts for the 04 RXP on this page of the forums store if you are in need

I will inspect. He told be it vibrated because it was "built" lol.
Edit: Motor mounts are good and solid. When these fail does the rubber break in half completely or do they just become soft and have play?Last edited by synergy141; 06-08-2015 at 10:17 PM.

Normally when the mounts fail, the metal portion separates from the rubber. They don't go soft.

Okay, and should I be replacing the rubber bellows and metal collar at the same time?

Bellows should be fine but it wouldn't hurt to replace it. Same with the top hat. You can reuse the top hat by resurfacing it using 220 grit sandpaper on a flat surface.

Yes, you will absolutely want to replace the rubber bellow also as they lose tension over time. especially on a 2004 ski.
Replace the collar and circlip also and the two o rings that go inside the collar. Basically, you want items 37, 36, 35, 34, 40 and 41 on this page of the store

Hope that helps!
