    Having CARDIAC event over cost of carb base gaskets!!!!

    Rebuilding carbs on -2- GP1200s so I need SIX carb base gaskets that DID NOT come in the Mikuni kit with jets. I check them out online and they are $30 her or cheapest is $22 EACH?! For a little piece of glorified paper?! Can I reuse them? Maybe add a little bit of sealant? If so, what kind sealant OR where can I find cheaper ones? I already shelled out over $400 for the rebuild kits.

    I know people gotta make a profit but REALLY......

    Thanks for any help,

    Dave

    Try SBT or another aftermarket company

    Are they GP1200R 66V or earlier GP 12's 65u engines? I should have them or can get them if you don't need them overnight.

    Yamaha oem anything=wallet flattener

    when I can, I'll use aftermarket gaskets, but carefully inspect them before use.

    After all, how can somebody sell a gasket for $2.75 when Yamaha wants $30..it MUST be junk at that price?

    <wink>

    I think the OEM ones are metal (like the rest of the OEM gaskets). Mine were anyway. I bought a paper set for all 3 carbs off ebay for like $10-15 I think. I was annoyed those gaskets didn't come in my OEM engine gasket kit. Every other gasket is there down to where the exhaust couples w/ the water box. Even came w/ the o rings that go between the carbs and the stock plastic air box. Grrrr....

    I buy Fiber rubber gasket material at the parts store and cut my own. Never had any issues.

    The oem gaskets are metal with a coating. If the coating is intact you can re-use them, but SBT does sell aftermarket replacements that are much more cost effective. I had the same dilemma when redoing 6 carbs on my Exciter 220 boat.
