    Through hull bearing alignment idea

I have been thinking of this for a while and want some thoughts on this. What if we had a bushing made that was 20mm ID and 25mm OD that could slide over the alignment tool and be used to center the through hull bearing? I bet this would get everything spot on.

    Maybe Beerdart has some ideas.....

So... your talking MSX through hull bearing carrier, right? So... remove the engine-side coupler... and screw on a regular Polaris coupler. Then setup alignment tool through pump stator and into the regular Polaris coupler as usual on a non-MSX craft.

But in addition... have a collar made... that slides perfect over the alignment shaft with the right size OD to fit the MSX through-hull bearing? This way the pump and engine are aligned and the through-hull carrier is too. Is this your idea?

    I like it!

    Cheers!

I am not near my parts bins or I would go check this directly.

What is the inside diameter of the stock MSX through-hull internal bearing?

I thought I read on here before where you can get rid of the MSX couplers and run the old style couplers with a Virage driveshaft. Wouldn't that make the center bearing the same size?

You remove the through hull when aligning the engine. The MSX bearing has a 25mm ID

Ok. For alignment purposes, couldn't you put an old style coupler on the engine and do an alignment the same as a Virage, then loosen the through hull bearing, reassemble the pump, etc, and then bolt down the through hull bearing? Let it self center on the driveshaft after the driveshaft has been centered to the engine/pump?

That's what we're talking about... issue is the MSX bearing carrier bearing ID is larger than the OD of the alignment rod. So would need a bushing/collar to upsize the alignment rod to fit the bearing carrier... then it could be bolted in-place and be in the correct spot.

    Cheers!

Unity's question was, what is wrong with tightening down the through hull carrier after everything else is reinstalled, thereby allowing it to float to the correct location?
