How does the clear dash / meter/ control panel get so scratched up? (FX140)
I'm looking to buy a 2002 FX140 and the clear portion of the dash guage or control panel is all scratched up. How does this happen as its seems so protected where its located? I guess the thing that makes me wonder is I was looking to see if a replacement face was available and I happened to look on ebay and there are a few full dash gauge assemblies for sale. All of them are scratched up.

They are not scratches. That is known as "crazing". They are hairline cracks from the plastic drying out. If it's thick enough it can be sanded out and polished. It needs protected regularly with a UV resistant protectant.
