2012 GTR 215 - no compression
As the title states I have a 12 215 GTR with 37 hours. Always been winterized and seasonal oil/plug changes.
This year it started running rough and sluggish and smoking. I brought it back to the dock and checked the plugs - # 2 was covered in oil and the electrode was pushed closed ..i.e. no gap. It starts and runs but smokes like crazy.
Seadoo dealer has it now and they say no compression in cylinder #2 - which I suspected. What could have caused this and what am I looking at repair wise?
The good news is my 99 GTX RFI still runs strong with 300+ hours...

if the plug gap was closed that mean there was something that didn't belon in the cylinder ( likely a valve head broke)
the cost depends on the amount of damage the engine took.
I hope this ski was under warranty..it could be surprisingly expensive if the blok was damaged badly.
sorry your welcome couldn't be on better terms
welcome to GH in any case.

This is funny-I still have the '98 GTX-RFI I bought new and the engine finally quit at 375 hours. It has been a great boat. As to your GTR, it doesn't sound good. The engine will have to be torn down to do a proper failure analysis and do make sure the root cause is found so it doesn't fail again. Good luck!

The ski is not under warranty
The dealer is still tearing it down to see extent of damage - I suspect it dropped a valve. The are opening up a case with BRP due to low hours - but I don't expect much with this. I have no idea what worst case would even cost...

That sucks man..I am sorry. Worst case is you need a new block, I think remans are like $2500 then there is labor. Maybe your dealer will give ya a break on some stuff. Did you have the first oil change done by a dealer or do it yourself? What part of the country do you live in?

take any break you can get if you aren't covered under any kind of warranty.
it would be a gift if you ask me.
Let's all hope the dealer appreciates your business.

Update - the piston broke around the ring and damaged the block and head... $3900 to fix. The dealer is talking with BRP to see if they will cover any of it due to low hours and no misuse. Ugh. I was hoping for less. Hopefully Seadoo will help a bit - but I am going to have it fixed regardless...
