    bad starter?

95 xp. Took it to the lake today for the first time since last summer. Cranked right up, ride for a few min at medium speed, cut it off and then click click. That's all it'll do now. My brother towed me back to the ramp. Trailered it and opened up the mpem. Selenoid clicks, put a screwdriver across the two big studs on the selenoid and hit start, click, no sparks. Brought it home, volt meter neg on plug body for ground and positive on the starter positive cable stud, hit start, 12.34 v. Bad starter? Brand new Duracell agm fully charged bought last week. One the last few times I rode it last summer it did this but crunk after a few min. Of hitting start. I put a new ground cable on it last year too. Tried wiggling all cables they feel tight.

If you put the screwdriver across the solenoid, it should turn over. If you pull the plugs, does the ski turn over?

could be a bad ground from starter to the block. These ones tend to go bad after a while.

Jumping the selenoid did nothing but click when hitting start, that's what makes it sound like the starter, and that I'm getting around 12.34 at the starter when hitting start so the selenoid seems fine. It's a 72, I'll take the plugs out and try it this morning.

It could be that the starter is still jammed on the flywheel. Try turning the engine over by hand with the plus out.

I spun it by hand but not with the plugs out. I'm gonna go out and mess with it soon. Eyeballing some spark builds on sea doos site. Lol

Is very possible the starter is bad. If the motor was locked up somehow for whatever reason, then when you jump the solenoid you would get some good sparking going on from the massive inrush of current going threw the windings. My bet is the brushes inside the motor are bad. Which is a very common thing for a DC voltage motor.

Yeah the starter isn't even trying to move and it's getting 12.34 volts so it has to be bad. I'm gonna try to take it out and apart. If it's just the brushes and everything else looks fine then I should just get brushes or a rebuild kit?
