Yamaha FXHO Newbie
Hi guys just found a 06 Yamaha FXHO for 3k with about 118 hours and had a couple of questions to ask before buying
1.What is the compression reading supposed for this 4 stroke motor supposed to be?Spark plug Socket size for this particular motor?
2. Any major issues with this particular cruiser I should worry about?
3. At 118 hours any maintenance I should worry about besides spark plugs/oil..
4.What exactly do these top out at?(mph)
5. Anything else I should look for before buying?
Appreciate anything you guys can give me... Thanks in advance!!

1. Compression is 135'ish if I remember correctly and I think spark plug is 5/8" (edited).
2. None at all. One of the most reliable engines ever put in a PWC.
3. Check air filter, pump cone grease and hit a click of grease on the intermediate shaft zirk.
4. 55-57'ish
5. Check underneath hull and shine a light around in the pump area for anything obvious.Last edited by Ski Hacks MG; 05-29-2015 at 06:55 AM.

Great skis I have 2 05 fxho. Not one thing wrong with them. Recommended an oil and filter change if you get it just to be sure it all clean. New plugs as well.

That's an 11.9:1 Compression: 180Lbs!!!
spark plug is not 13/16. I don't remember exactly the size however they are baby plugs. Make sure you are able to take them all out before buying the ski as they tend to break off...
The he ski will top out at 60MPH and I would just make sure you take it for a water test and make sure the motor gets up to full throttle about 10,100-10,300 RPMS.
New plugs and a fresh oil change and you will have a very reliable machine. I have an 06 with 250 hours running 60-61 MPH trouble free.
Good luck, Julio...

Just checked an FX HO and it's an NGK CR9EB (edited) plug that takes a 5/8" spark plug socket.

But is a compression test necessary? Just wondering if my rpms are fine and it hits top speed then all should correct?

Spark plugs they use are cr9eb.
they are 5/8 or 16mm.
compression will be around 205psi. Make Sure to do it with the throttle wide open.
make sure it has not been double filled with oil. You need to check the level when the ski is hot. A early indicator of overfull oil is a oil covered air filter. Hope this clears things up. Cheers Joel

Thanks! Biggest problem to me is that I debating if should do a compression check or will the test drive be more than enough? It seems that the spark plugs on these things need to handled gently and can seize up? I dont wanna try and pull them or break one off. Thanks!
