Going to buy a 2004 RXP that sat in storage for 4 years for conversion

Someone locally is selling a 2004 RXP with 65hrs for $2k with trailer. Sat for years, has old gas runs bad and requires a jump box (bad battery). What should I look for that would make it a bad purchase?

Has Riva ECU, 12lb charger, some other things.

My goal is to slap this in my GP1300r hull, sell RXP hull with title for a grand or so.

Make sure it has upgraded valves, upgraded valvesprings (to match Riva ECU increased rpm) and change the flywheel bolts. Rebuild supercharger. IF everything else checks out, you should be OK.
I would take a brand new battery along and compression test it before buying just to make sure the basic motor is intact too.

Went there with jumper cables and compression gauge. He wouldn't let me start it or check compression. He said 2k take it how it is or someone else will.

    I noped the fuck out.

That is sketchy.. i understand people not wanting randoms taking their ski on the water for a test ride because of liability reasons... but shit in a driveway wont let you crank it? come on

For that price, it may still be worth buying for all the parts, but expect very few good parts from the motor and price it accordingly. Obviously not a good purchase for someone who wants a running motor for a GPRXP conversion, but potentially a buy for a salvager.

That's an amazing buy for a salvager. If someone has a motor laying around for 2k they get a titled ski and can flip it for 4500.

U can always pull valve cover. Pull plugs spin motor over by hand. Etc. I've bought lots of skis without testing but did a lot of checks first so if it fell through could still get my money.

I agree. He knows somethings fucked. These things can be absolute money pits. My mate just went through this buying a running 04 RXP on trailer for $3100. It know already owes him $4700 and theres still more to be done. These RXP,s are only worth $5K in good condition, low hour on trailer. His has 375 hours and is in average condition.
    I wouldn't touch it.
