    How is my battery?

2011 GTI 155 Limited, love it!

always stored in heated garage in winter time and well maintained and cared for. Always on battery tender when stored.

@ the lake every weekend now. I launch and tie off to our floating dock every Friday. Ski stays in water all weekend, riding or moored to dock.

every morning it takes a 2-3 tries to get her started. This is new this season. I don't crack started too long though. After start for the day and after first morning ride no starting issues that day, but again next morning, 2-3 start attempts before started.

thoughts? Battery on the way out, need replacement?

This is is the stock 2011 battery.

    would appreciate your comments.
    thank you.

I would bet the battery is dying
    you can load test it
4 years is a long life for those batterys

Take the battery to your local Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. They will load test it for free give you a print out.
I just had my 3yr old gel battery tested a month ago and it was fine.

is the engine cranking slowly, or are you getting nothing?

nothing likely means your starter solenoid is bad

4 years is a while on an oem battery, but don't just throw money at it.

check the voltage on the starter side of the solenoid in the morning when you hit the button. if you get a reading and the engine won't start, battery, no reading until the 4th or 5th time you press the start button, solenoid

If it only happens in the mornings after sitting all night, could it be the solenoid, only failing in the morning @ start of theday?
    Thanks for your reply.

I am getting the starter turning over, but very slowly in the mornings. It does catch 3rd or so time. Then fine all day after initial morning run. I do run it and ride it every couple hours though.

Buy an AGM battery and be done with it. TX30LA is the part number for Advance Auto.

Update: took old battery out and put it on the bench, it was weak and didn't hold a charge well. It was the battery.

new one installed and all is well!

i got four years out of the stock battery, and 270 hours of riding!

on to more riding. Thanks for the replies everyone!

I noticed for a few weeks before battery replacement, when stock battery was weak, the cruise control didn't quite work - would not accelerate or decelerate with up / down controls when in that mode. Dash would indicate a speed change after up /down button press, butski would not physically change speed.

Soon as I installed new battery it works again!

    Strange
