    Best Ski for "hobby rental."

I'm thinking of purchasing a new jet ski to rent out at our local lake.
Let me be clear, I'm not trying to start a big rental business and make
a living or even that much extra money. I only want to rent the ski enough
to possibly pay for it and keep fuel in it. I'm planning on using the Fun2Rent
peer to peer site since they offer (expensive) insurance on a per rental basis.

Our local lake gets over 2 million visitors a year, has two marinas, and nobody rents jet skis.
I'm pretty confident I could get around $350 a day (small fishing boats get $200 a day.)

I have a couple of questions about my possible venture:

    1. Has any one done a "hobby rental", and what was your experience?
    2. Has anyone used Fun2Rent?
    3. Which entry level ski would be the most RELIABLE--reliability is far and away the thing needed the most.

I started out looking at the Sea Doo Spark, but from what I can read, reliability isn't really it's trademark. I've read that the entry level Yamahas are considered the best for rentals and are quite reliable.

    Any thoughts?

If the spark is out I'd go with the Yamaha V1 aka the old VX sport.

Are you only going to purchase and rent out a single machine?

What happens if you need to go find or rescue the renter?

Will you you be using an electronic GPS tracking module to locate wayward renters?

I don't even know how to subscribe, but I might subscribe if I knew how. Sheesh! A small search of your posts might enlighten the guy.

My bad!!! How did I miss that insurance statement? This aging stuff really torques me off sometimes. Only exercise I get is jumping to conclusions.

I had a friend years ago run a small fleet of 3 skis on the Columbia river. It was a side job he mainly did on the weekends and he dis pretty well with it. He had 2 stroke skis as it was back in the 90's. He also had rental insurance and proper business license. I think I would investigate insurance and if feasible go for it.

This does not exactly sound like a viable business plan to me. You have to factor in wear and tear plus repairs needed from rental hours, extra maintenance, etc.

Never heard of it. If you get into a lawsuit I guess you will find out what that's worth. That said, I salute your entrepreneurial spirit and hope it works out for you. You want the Yamaha VX series.
