Nice! Looks like the weather was perfect. So you did Antelope Canyon, THE slot canyon hike,
or do you mean on the water?

Rented a boat or took a boat tour to Rainbow?

Boat tours on both. I tried to reserve a boat for the afternoon but the rental place at Lake Powell Resort only does full day reserves, anything else is on a first come basis. When we got there at lunch time from the 4 hour drive from Boulder, they had nothing left at that point so we grabbed the tour to Antelope. The tour to Rainbow was set up a while before. I toyed around with taking the short cut through Grand Staircase on Cottonwood Canyon to get there earlier but there was a threat of rain and even though I rented a Toyota 4 Runner, I didn't want to take the chance of a washout on that road in the middle of nowhere.

Gotcha. Coincidentally, I used cottonwood road my last trip there a month ago. It was dry and easy on my 1st time but was almost all dry last month - there were 2 low spots that were wet and it was in the clay Wasn't sure if my rental SUV was gonna make it or not, haha...backed up and gave it the gas! Some clay cliff turns too. Definitely very easy road when totally dry, a little nerve racking when damp.

I just thought of something, if you put in at Wahweap how far can you make it without having to turn back? I know the distance would vary by speed and ski type, just curious really. I'm glad to hear the lake is rising, hopefully it will keep going up for when I'm out there in August.

Well, mileage is mileage...how far can you go where you ride now? I'm not 100% sure if you could make it to Dangling Rope marina (gas pumps there) since I've never tried on a ski and because I forget it's mileage marker on the map. I have the lake map at home though. Might be able to make it there as long as you keep it part throttle...but that would be a long slow ride.

One thing for sure about Lake Powell....it will certainly not be empty when you get there in August!!! Still has a Dam's worth of water

I don't think I'll push it. Marina gas is so expensive it would be tough to fill up two 16 gallon skis. We've never really measured how many miles we can go on a tank. I know we rode at least 40-50 miles round trip and weren't out of gas. I was did a 20 mile trip around our local lake at full throttle and that took 3/4 tank haha .

We're pretty excited for the trip, I've been ordering supplies from Amazon and we picked up some Go Pro cameras, I figure there will be plenty of photo/video worthy moments out there.

What kind of skis are you doing the trip on? My svho will get over 100 miles on a tank while cruising. Of course in the boost not so much. But you are cruising and looking at what you get to see rather than flat out trying to get to point b.
Enjoy take lots of pictures and stop and enjoy the views.

I think you can make Dangling Rope from Wahweap. After reading this, I was curious how far myself so below is a quick plot I did. It's only 45-1/2 miles and that's following the main channel which I don't think you would have to do with a ski.

If you are going to drive all the way from Texas, I wouldn't worry about more expensive marine gas. Lake Powell is too beautiful to pass up over gasoline. If I lived anywhere west of the Mississippi, I'd haul my ski or boat out there!

If you go this far, make sure you dock the ski at the Rainbow Bridge floating docks and take the hike to Rainbow Bridge. It's not that much further from Dangling Rope.
